Nowadays, artificial flowers and preserved flowers are gaining increasing popularity among consumers. These flowers are more durable than fresh flowers and require minimal maintenance, making them perfect for busy white-collar workers who value quality of life or for those “plant killers” who struggle to keep anything alive.
We often get questions from customers about the differences between these two types of flowers and how to care for them to ensure they last longer. Today, we’ll address these questions and provide some clarity.
Artificial Flowers:
Production Method:
- Commonly known as “fake flowers” or “man-made flowers.” They are made from materials such as cloth, yarn, silk, and plastic, based on the model of fresh flowers.
Advantages:
- Long preservation time, no environmental restrictions.
- Lower price than fresh flowers, easy to transport and arrange, although high-end custom-made flowers can be more expensive than fresh flowers.
- Wide variety of artificial flowers, suitable for different home decoration needs.
- Especially suitable for flower lovers who are allergic to pollen.
Care Tips:
- Dust Removal: Simply use the cool setting on a hairdryer to blow away dust every one or two weeks. For artificial flowers made entirely of soft plastic or coated with glue, rinse directly with clean water. For silk flowers, soak them in a high-concentration saltwater solution for 2 hours, then gently shake them in clean water.
- Drying: Hang the flowers upside down with the blooms facing downward in a well-ventilated area to dry, preventing deformation. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause fading.
- Avoid Extremes: Don’t expose artificial flowers to prolonged sunlight or soak them in water—especially hot water—as this can dull their vibrant colors over time.
- Cleaning: If dust accumulates over time, use a soft brush dipped in a neutral detergent or a specialized artificial flower cleaner to gently wipe them, restoring their fresh look instantly.
Preserved Flowers:
Production Method:
- Preserved flowers are dried flowers made from fresh cut flowers such as roses, carnations, orchids, and hydrangeas, which undergo a series of complex processes including dehydration, decolorization, drying, and dyeing.
Advantages:
- Preserved flowers are almost identical to fresh flowers in color, shape, and feel. They retain the original tissue and moisture of fresh flowers, and their colors are richer, their uses are higher, and their preservation time is at least 3 years. No care is required, and there is no pollen.
Care Tips:
- Do not place the flowers in an overheated or strong light environment. Preserved flowers are very delicate, so do not touch them frequently with your hands. Do not water them, do not place them outdoors, and do not expose them to direct sunlight. If dust accumulates, use a hairdryer’s cold air setting to gently blow it away. If the indoor environment is humid, do not expose the flowers to the air for extended periods.
